Our review

The Glasshouse opened in 2003 as a state-of the-art,  architectural palace, combining a Victorian Gothic stone church façade with a stunning blue glass and steel structure creating a curving sweep along Greenside Place in Edinburgh's east end.  The original ethos was to create an exclusive hotel to resemble a private residential club.

Today, it is part of the prestigious Marriott Autograph Collection of first class, independent Hotels around the world.  With a wide selection of deluxe and executive suites, many offer private balconies with city views, or enable you to step out onto your own patio beside the rooftop garden.  Design is functional and practical, with screens dividing bedroom and lounge; new suites have large bath tubs and rainforest showers.  Accommodation caters for business and leisure visitors with all modern facilities, comfort, and 24 hour room service.

The Rooftop Garden is simply unique to an Edinburgh city hotel, a natural environment in which to hide away from the bustle of the city below. Enjoy grass lawns, flowering borders, a terrace with Philippe Starck chairs, and unrestricted views up to Calton Hill with its Old Observatory and Greek Parthenon. The Calton Suite on the Rooftop Garden is a superb venue for a wedding, as well as for private and corporate events and banquets.

The new Observatory Restaurant has now opened to hotel guests and non-residents where Chef Daniel Melllor creates a superlative menu of Scottish beef, game and seafood, with dishes artistically presented from amuse bouche to a delicately light dessert.  Breakfast is also exemplary with a choice of good Continental buffet  and quality hot dishes: from porridge and kippers to Eggs Benedict and pancakes.

The Glasshouse offers a relaxing, romantic retreat with all homely comforts - a bowl of fresh fruit, sofas, fine fabrics and bed linen, luxury bathrooms, glossy magazines, artwork everywhere ….and the fabulous Rooftop Garden.  Chic, sleek and unique in style matched by a contemporary, casual manner of 5 star service and hospitality.
