People Awards Winners 2017

Without question the Scottish Hotel Awards has been active at pioneering the way the awards seek, find, encourage and respond to individual talent, passion and effort in Scottish hospitality. Right across the vital (and often unsung) array of departments in hotel businesses, we try to find the very best across the field, from waiters to head chefs, receptionists to brand managers, housekeepers, spa therapists, wedding planners and so many more more. Few industries provide such a diverse range of careers, and few employ as many people. Hence the importance we have, for over a decade, attached to People of Excellence.

The regional People of Excellence were presented during 3 presentations in January, held at Blythswood Square, Glasgow, Rocpool Reserve, Inverness and the Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian. From these fantastic regional winners our judges selected the national winners, after a further round of judging throughout February and March, and who were then presented during the annual Gala Dinner on 23 April 2017.

19 outstanding national winners were honoured for their personal contribution to the hospitality industry, including Stuart Chapman from Blythswood Square for Restaurant Manager, Francisco Duarte from Old Town Chambers and Alan McLaughlan of Loch Lomond Arms for Executive Chef of the Year.

In addition to the People of Excellence, the Rising Stars of 2017 were presented.

Chair of Judges Vivien Devlin said: "It is important to recognise young members of staff who show enthusiasm and initiative as they work their way up the profession. A Rising Star is an inspirational award to those who have shown significant progress as part of a team or personal success in career development. This is about ensuring excellence in training and motivating talented".
