    The reliability and efficiency of the whole hotel product is key; service failures, including technology, are marked down strongly: business needs things to work. Bedrooms must have excellent desks with first-rate connectivity, seating and lighting. Bathrooms must be well-lit and showers powerful. Meeting rooms are essential; business centres or other facilities are helpful; basic support services for the business traveller (printing, PC / laptop back-up, local information) are essential. Hotels will be credited for original thinking that makes the stay more pleasant for a businessperson, including support for international, foreign-language speaking guests… and a problem-solving culture. The national winner is chosen from regional winners plus two additional sub-category winners: Airport Hotel of the Year where we look closely at transport links between hotel and airport, not just proximity, while the hotel must be well set up for the flexible hours operation needed by air travellers; airport-related info services will be marked up as will additional thoughtful touches such as parking deals, grab & go breakfasts, printers for boarding passes etc.; and the Conference Hotel of the Year where judges consider how effectively the contender business hotel might host or support a conference-type event and will look at all aspects and facilities of the hotel and, critically, its team’s skills. In this overall business category, endorsement from business is considered seriously.
