This hotel occupies a rambling 19th Century manor set in 240 acres of gardens and woodland on the shores on Loch Awe, and is surrounded by some of Scotland’s most unspoilt and dramatic Highland scenery. Ardanaiseig is a Baronial style building that offers a luxury 4 star hotel experience that’s centred around a grand drawing room, traditional bar and high-end restaurant.
Inside, owner Bennie Gray, an antiques dealer, has created “a pleasingly old-fashioned air of country house grandeur” with oil paintings, statuary and ‘quirky’ objets d’art. The magnificent drawing room boasts vast and intricate mirrors, beautiful antique tables, and a Bechstein grand piano. It’s the perfect environment in which to relax, perhaps with your favourite book, and let time drift by.
The bedrooms all have delightful views of either the loch or the estate and each is different. All are individually designed and were the work of Scottish Opera set designer. As a result, they exude romance and luxury and they too are replete with fine antique furniture. For a night under the stars, book the converted boathouse, which enjoys a prime position on the waterside, and also available is a self-catering cottage.
As an aperitif, you may enjoy a local single malt whisky before proceeding to the elegant dining room — the restaurant has 2 AA rosettes — and enjoying a truly gourmet dinner created by Head Chef Colin Cairns and his team using the freshest local ingredients.
Ardanaiseig’s location and facilities make it a great venue for a unique wedding. The whole hotel can be taken over on an exclusive use basis or, if you have smaller number of guests, there is a function room where your party can enjoy a more intimate event.
A wide range of activities can be organised from walking — you can tackle a nearby Munro: Ben Cruachan — to cycling or horse riding; from angling — with help from a Ghillie — to clay pigeon shooting; kayak lessons or, for those wishing to take things a little more slowly, a relaxing massage. The hotel also owns two boats that guests may use to explore the loch in their own time.
For guests who wish to explore the many sights and attractions of Argyll (including Kilchurn Castle, Oban and Inverary) Ardanaiseig is the perfect base and personalised tours can be organised by the hotel team. The service and guest experience is truly excellent, offering a real slice of Scottish hospitality and the team are always happy to offer up their broad knowledge of the local area.
