Our review

The Clovenfords has a fascinating past and the walls of the hotel display many pictures and interesting facts from their rich history. This old coaching inn dates back to 1750 and was the lodging place for Sir Walter Scott from 1799 – 1804. In the forecourt there is a larger than life statue of Sir Walter Scott, that eventually found its home here. Fascinatingly made with a variety of items including a suit of clothes and an old bedstead!

The Borders offer a wonderful range of activities and places to visit. Just 4 miles from Galashiels and within striking distance of Edinburgh, Glasgow and Newcastle, the Clovenfords Hotel is a wonderful base as well as a relaxing and fun place to stay.

There are any number of places to visit including the four great Abbeys at nearby Melrose, Kelso, Dryburgh and Jedburgh. There are also a good number of stately homes well worth a visit including the stately home of Sir Walter Scott at Abbotsford.

There are 21 golf courses within the area as well as the famous River Tweed, the longest and most prolific salmon fishing river in the country, as well as numerous outdoor sports and walks. The 8 bedrooms have all been recently refurbished are all very comfortable offering you all the facilities you would expect form a modern hotel but delivered with style by Roy and his team.

A central point within the community, enjoy a really nice drink, mix with the friendly locals and staff and keep cosy up in front of one of the warm open fires, on warmer days, watch the world go by from one of the picnic tables in the homely forecourt.
