Our review

Set in the Scottish Highlands you will find this incredibly fascinating wonderful ‘Douneside House’. Steeped in a rich family history that is both inspirational and tragic at the same time, you cannot help but feel honoured to be in what was the home of the MacRobert’s family. Now safely managed and nurtured for by the MacRobert Trust, and after a recent multi-million-pound refurbishment, you can enjoy all that this beautiful house has to offer.

Set in 17 acres of manicured grounds, including vegetable gardens where the dedicated gardeners grow much of the kitchen’s vegetables, herbs and flowers, you can enjoy a stroll whilst enjoying incredible views across the Scottish Highlands to the Grampian mountains. If you are up early enough you will catch the most amazing sunrises.

Douneside has two most comfortable lounges – both with roaring fires on those cold bright and crisp winter days where you can curl up and read a book or why not sit in front of the fire in the bar and enjoy a wee dram.

The Trust has created 14 superb classic contemporary styled bedrooms all of which are stylish and of the highest quality using modern fabrics, antique furniture and the most comfortable Hypnos beds with the best quality bedding you can imagine. Within the grounds there are a number of cottages with an additional 16 bedrooms including the impressive 4 bedroomed and suited Casa Memoria. Many have their own terraces and BBQ sets.

Douneside has a Health Club with excellent gymnasium, sauna, swimming pool and classes, which are available to guests. There is also an all-weather tennis court as well as croquet on the lawn.

The Chef and his team have created some memorable and highly awarded dishes recognised as being one of the finest kitchens in Scotland. The 6 course Taster Menu with paired wines is more of a journey than a meal, as is the excellent Table d’hote menu.
