Our review

Duisdale House Hotel and Restaurant is one of the three Sonas Hospitality Group hotels, all of which are renowned for being excellent. They all offer a very warm welcome and an intimate country house style, while all have been refurbished to a level of luxury that is matched by the imaginative and delicious menus served in their restaurants.

As you approach Duisdale House, you are automatically drawn to the splendour of this mansion house, which was originally built in 1865. The hotel sits atop a hill, with commanding views over the spectacular Loch Hourn and the surrounding mountainsides.  Set in 35 acres of woodlands, with neatly manicured lawns to its front, this is a superb Country House Hotel to relax in. There are six yacht moorings on site, which guests may use, and you can often observe some very fine boats as they tie up and come to the hotel for a few drinks or a meal.

While you plan the next day’s activities, why not relax in the hotel’s hot tub? The team at Duisdale can recommend a whole host of sight-seeing opportunities or activities such as golf, hill walking, sailing and fishing. In fact, Duisdale’s sister hotel, Skeabost, can arrange golf at their own golf course or fishing for salmon and brown trout on their beat of the River Snizort, accompanied by their very own ghillie. If you really want the ultimate Skye experience then the hotel’s 50-foot yacht ‘Solus a Chuain’ is available for use from April to September. Why not enjoy the amazing scenery and fresh air from its deck before anchoring in a sheltered cove and enjoying a champagne lunch?

Duisdale has an excellent selection of rooms for you to stay in, many come with four-poster beds, and the superb Garden Room suite is actually a separate cottage in the grounds — perfect for those seeking out a little more privacy. The rooms either have sea or garden views and as the hotel faces more or less due east, they get some of the best sunrise views you will ever see!

Dining at Duisdale is a delight. Either choose to eat informally in the Chart Room Bar or enjoy an aperitif beside the lounge’s open fire before dinner in the restaurant. The hotel has a wide range of Scotch whiskies and a great selection of the latest Scottish gins to choose from.

Whichever option you choose, the award winning food at Duisdale is an excellent choice for your time on the Isle of Skye.
