Our review

Right in the centre of Edinburgh’s New Town a hidden gem of style and comfort can be found – the Hotel Indigo. True to its name, the decor throughout reflects with vibrant colours and shades of blue and purple. This boutique hotel, set in one of the listed Georgian town houses along York Place, provides the perfect spot to start exploring the grand capital and its old and new history.

The bedrooms feature a stylish ambience with Edinburgh themed wall papers and modern furnishings. Relaxing in the comfy beds is a given, with an entertainment unit at your disposal and a well stocked mini bar and plenty teas and coffee. With modern bathrooms, fluffy towels and luxury toiletries, you almost don’t want to leave the room. Even an extensive snack menu for room service is available and features mini burgers or haggis bon bons.

If you do feel energetic, the hotel has a work out suite, complete with running machines and weights. For those wanting to take it a bit more leisurely, the bar is an inviting place. With a wide selection of malts, gins, vodkas and other spirits, this is not just another bar – it’s a place of relaxation. And if you want information, from advising on things to do in town, to a tour through Scotland’s whisky world, the knowledge of the bar staff seems endless. A very unique feature, and certainly a conversation piece, is the smoke dome which allows adding extra smokiness to your whiskey.

Of course the food matches up to the excellence of the bar. The Turquoise Thistle Restaurant shines in vibrant colours and offers a menu which features the best of Scottish with a very modern twist. Throughout the dishes are creatively presented and full of flavour, accompanied by a substantial wine list.

Before setting out for the day, breakfast will set you up for the day. With a lovely selection of fruits, yoghurts and cold cuts, followed by a great selection of hot dishes, even some to take away for those in a hurry, there is something for everybody.

The more than helpful staff in the restaurant or in reception will do their best to assist in any way – from booking a taxi, advising on things to do or helping with onward travel. Although the hotel does not have a separate car pack, there are two larger car parks close by and the hotel offers discounts for guests.
