Our review

Built in 1988, rather than 1888, the 5-star Inver Lodge was purpose built as a contemporary, yet traditionally styled Shooting Lodge which manages the estates around Assynt and Lochinver. The wild, unspoilt wilderness of Sutherland on the north-west coast of Scotland offers a genuine escape from city life for country sports enthusiasts to experience deer stalking and fishing.  First class facilities are offered to ensure a professionally organised day out on the moors or rivers with the services of ghillies and stalkers with training opportunities.

Located on the North Coast 500 (Scotland’s answer to Route 66 in the USA), this attracts growing numbers of international visitors to spend a week or more driving this award-winning tourism venture, with spectacular scenery around the circular route from Inverness to Inverness. With a spectacular backdrop of the majestic high peaks of Suilven, Canisp, Quinag and Ben More Assynt nearby, this is also a prime location for mountain climbers, hill walkers, bird and wildlife spotters.

There are twenty-one bedrooms, with a choice of twin, double, superior, executive and suites all dressed in soft tweeds in colours of purple, green and blues to reflect the landscape. Accommodation is available on the ground floor for those with accessibility issues, and also with patio doors leading out to a patio and gardens – ideal for dog owners who are most welcome with a truly VIP service from homemade food and all facilities.

Be as active, sporty or lazy as you wish at Inver Lodge: the log fire and sofas in the lounge, and the library bar with fine selection of books, creates the epitome of sheer relaxation. Just like a Victorian country house, play a game of snooker, and to warm up after a day out exploring there is also a sauna.

The hotel boasts a Chez Roux restaurant where executive chef Albert Roux oversees the French-Scottish cuisine – Le Gavroche with a taste of the Highlands (finest seafood, game, beef), complemented by a fine choice of whiskies, gins, beers and wines to sample before, during and after dinner. Treat yourself to a Chez Roux picnic basket for a gourmet lunch while on a day trip to explore this painterly coastline and mountain scenery.

Under the superb management of Nicholas Gorton and his staff, a warm welcome is assured with many British and International guests returning year after year for a sporting or leisurely retreat – their home from home, matching Highland hospitality with modern luxury comfort.
