Our review

The Hotel stands in private well-kept gardens and offers great views along and across Loch Awe and its stunning scenery.

It started life in the 1600s as a drovers' inn on a promontory jutting into Loch Awe and has been looking after travellers ever since including James Boswell and Samuel Johnson and over the year’s extensions and refurbishments have developed this inn into a very comfortable hotel.

The setting is tranquil, with gardens that go down to the loch to the front and one side of the hotel. There are eighteen en-suite guest bedrooms at the Taychreggan Hotel with several located on the first floor of the "new" wing and the remaining rooms are in the older part of the hotel. Many of the rooms have magnificent loch views and all are spacious, as is the bathrooms, and beautifully furnished, well-appointed with well equipped. For a night of extra luxury try the master suite which offers a sitting room and bedroom and a bathroom with spa bath.

Public areas include a comfortable and spacious guest lounge enjoying superb views over the lawns to the loch, with a fire at one end to warm you on cold evenings; a second smaller lounge, with the same views; a snooker room with a full-size antique table; a lounge bar; the dining room, which makes the most of the views down Loch Awe with its full length arched windows; and the Orangery where you can enjoy lunch or drinks.

In the evening enjoy a 5-course menu in the restaurant from a 2 AA rosette menu where the Chef takes personal pride in delivering a meal experience never to be forgotten.

The hotel's private meeting room can seat up to 25 and the hotel can provide the full range of equipment necessary to ensuring a successful meeting or conference. Taychreggan's location and facilities make it a very attractive venue for a get-away-from-it-all wedding where the whole hotel can be taken over on an exclusive use basis or if you have smaller number of guests there is a room where your party can enjoy a more intimate event.

A wide range of activities can be organised from walking, there are 20 Munros within 90 minutes to cycling or falconry; from angling with help from a Ghillie to clay pigeon shooting, kayak lessons or archery. The Hotel has a boat to let you explore the Loch in your own time.

Taychreggan is also the perfect base for exploring the many sights and attractions of Argyll including Kilchurn Castle and St Conan’s Kirk, Kilmartin Glen and Museum and Oban.

The service is excellent and the staff work hard to give every guest a memorable stay.
