Our review

Hotelkeeping at the George Hotel dates back to 1751 and you feel all of that history the minute you walk through the doors.

Kris Clark and his team have preserved a little bit of Highland history for everyone to enjoy. The George is a remarkable step back in time and really allows the guest to escape from the pace and pressure of modern day life.

Sitting in the bar area, you may be forgiven for expecting some characters of the historic past of Inverary to stroll in for a refreshment, such is the feeling of escapism that this hotel offers the senses. The flagstone floors coupled with the dark timbers and atmospheric lighting give that feeling of plots and insurgency being talked about in hushed tones.

The kitchen brigade headed up by two Frenchmen offer a wonderful array of extremely tasty dishes which will not break the bank, by any means. In fact, it is fair to say that the George is all about the food and drink

And their passion for this is self-evident from each dish you try.

The food is complimented with a broad and reasonably priced wine list, offering alternatives by glass carafe and bottle, including a fine spread of high quality French Whites.

The accommodation at the George keeps you in the ‘other’ world of ‘yesteryear’ and the beauty of it all is non-reproduction imported furniture but pieces that have been in the hotel through the current owners six generations of running the George.

If you hanker for a break with a bit of difference and a hotel with something different and authentic to offer then The George Hotel in Inverary will give you this, in spades!
